The Home
Textile Tool Museum is a hands-on museum offering a variety of workshops and
demonstrations, using tools and techniques of Early America for spinning,
weaving and woodworking.
Our displays include spinning wheels, looms, yarn winders, large warping mill,
different fibers, a wide variety of hand
and wood working tools, small blacksmith shop, dyeing yarn over an open fire,
our 1800's Federal House with special
textile displays, plus children's area for "hands on" and a children's garden.
Outside gardens also include flax, dye plants and herbs. A Gift Corner supplied
by donations help support the
Home Textile Tool Museum.
Costumed volunteers
escort you through this
hilltop museum in the scenic village of Orwell. Hear the whir of a
wooden spinning wheel or see the large loom,
made in 1790; view this year's feature, "The Jean Warholic Coverlet and Spinning
Collection".
We also hold a variety of workshops including cheese making, sewing a vintage
cloak, felting and basket weaving.
They show the area's local history including Native American artifacts, antiques, and Displays on how early settlers lived.
